I guess I really don't have much to say, and that is pretty okay.  I've had a really rough few days, weeks, whatever.

This past week I've had a series of unlucky events happen to me.  I had an incredible weekend in RENT, and after that, it all kind of fell apart. I got very sick, and after being told it was time to be housebound for two days, my apartment caught fire.  It was a total loss, but thank whomever, we all got out okay--5 adults, 2 kids, a cat and a dog.  It's been a very shocking and emotional few days.

But, this is about social media.  Although in a crisis, and after losing everything, I did manage to get my cell phone out.  Because I have a smart phone, I was able to update my status on Facebook with information. Who does that, in the midst of a crisis?  Someone born in my generation, that's who.  Was it for my own good, or was in necessary?  It was a great feeling to have the support of my Facebook friends, whom I really do all know in real life.  This social media outlet helped me communicate my situation, and I have received so many offers of everything from furniture, to clothes, to a roof over our heads, to anything.

For so long, even while taking this class, I still felt a twinge of the social-media-is-for-fun bug.  It really, really isn't always just for fun.  As odd as this may sound, it really was almost a support system for me.  A good friend of mine wanted to set up a fundraiser for my roommates and I, and one of my brothers wanted to call out to all of his friends to help collect items for us.  It has been incredible.

Not only has Facebook helped us obtain physical items, but people have given so much love and support.  I know it sounds cheesy, and some people think others just "post because it's the right thing to do."  I really have taken it all to heart--that someone knows about my problem, and really are giving their thoughts, prayers, and concern for us.  For being someone who always thought she was just an average person, it makes me feel more loved than ever.

To family, friends, and all of those inbetween who have helped us--I thank you.  Without Facebook, and social media in general, I may still be in a little bit of a darker place.  That sounds so very strange, but it's true--kind words and thoughts have really helped bring my spirits up, and have made the situation a little easier to deal with.

To my roommates, Melyssa and Curtis (and Legal!)--We are strong, and we are proud.  This experience will make us better people. I love you with all of my heart, and I thank you for being able to understand my pain and heartache.

Tech week = crazy time.

Therefore, my life has not had much social media in it, so I am going to go the Amber route and question it up.

Favorite type of social media, and why?  Also, mobile device media--good, or bad? Why?

Next week's blog shall be glorious. I can already feel it.

Hello Bloggers and Blogettes!

It's been a crazy crazy few weeks, and I haven't posted nearly as much as I should have.

I saw this article this morning, and it kind of related to what Ben was talking about last week with the bar codes.

In a way I think it's really really cool, but kind of scary that pretty much anything can be scanned through our phones and paid for, ordered, or otherwise.  It kind of takes having a portable telephone to a level that I don't think anyone could have ever dreamed of years ago.

Here we go world--question for you.  Do you think soon EVERYTHING will be paid for by phone or bar code?  Or is it just a trend for those who have enough money to pay for apps and smart phones?  Will this be a brand n

Alright, well this post isnt ALL about Glee, but I did notice something on last week episode that caught my attention.

It's really interesting to me how YouTube videos can really play a part in the rest of the world.  How something ordinary that people do can be noticed, talked about, even mimiced on a national television show.

The one that caught my eye was the "David after the dentist" joke on Glee.  If you haven't seen that yet, here is the link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txqiwrbYGrs

I personally think it's hilarious, and so true. Just a guy, taping his kid after he goes to the dentist, and boom, after only two years, over 69 MILLION HITS!  wow.  Incredible.

Here is what made me laugh in last weeks Glee episode.  Just to catch those non-Gleeks up (Which there should be NONE OF YOU because this show is not only hilarious and fun to watch, but really shows how important arts are in our schools!) here is a short synopsis of what was going on beforehand:

This is the famed "Britney Spears" episode, and many of the kids need to go to the dentist, after finding out they have bad teeth (kind of a weird plot, but whatever, it works.)  After being put under and listening to Britney music, they all start having their own dreams where they are Britney in her music videos.  Right after Rachel Berry, the leader of the Glee Club (played by the AMAZING Lea Michele) wakes up, this is what happens:

Interesting how one father's silly tape of his kid could be on an Emmy award winning show?  I've seen a few others have this happen to them, but this was the most recent.  I also find it interesting that musicians who are just goofing off and making YouTube videos can become superstars. For example, Justin Bieber.  But I guess I just don't care about him enough to talk about him.  That's for another rant, but probably one discussing stupidity.

So.

I really do love technology. Especially when dealing with the arts. I think it's a great tool and I really do love learning about it.

I have been putzing on the Green Bay E Portfolio website for an hour now, trying to view what my portfolio looks like.

I also, for the life of me, CANNOT figure out how to edit the banner and headline, as we were shown in class.

I should have worked on this right after the presentation they gave us, but, alas my computer has been AND STILL IS very sick.  It also didnt look too difficult when I was watching him. Like I said, I love technology and it was fun for me to learn how to do it.

Obviously, I didn't learn enough, because well, here we are.

So if anyone wants to comment and let me know what I am missing, that would be great.  GREAT, GRAND, WONDERFUL--NO YELLING ON THE BUS!

This is me trying to figure out my media for the arts. Le Sigh. It's doing crazy things to me.

Well, here we are.

A new school year is upon us, which will begin the blogging process!

Mainly, this blog will be used for my Social Media Seminar class with Professor Ellen Rosewall.  I am very, VERY excited for this class, as I believe social media is a HUGE part of everyone's lives, especially those who are involved in the Arts.

I've decided to attach a link to this page, which will be highly embarrassing for myself as well as Melyssa Keil.  In the past, we were both involved in a group called the Peter Quince Performing Company in Manitowoc.  I posted this video on YouTube of our audition dance piece from the 2008 show FAME.  At the time, I thought it would bring it more people to audition for the show, or see what we were all about.  Boy, was I wrong.  There's no depth, no information, nothing professional AT ALL.  But, here you all go, for a good laugh.

P.S.  We did not plan the color coordination--just a random happening.  Melyssa is the second from the left, I am the second from the right.  Laugh as you will--it was pretty much after a long day of dancing, goofing around, and all over fun.  Sigh...silly times, silly thoughts of "good advertisement."

Hellloooooo!

While my title may be misleading as it is the end of August, I only write that because I was recently cast in UW-Manitowoc's production of RENT!!!  I'm so excited--Rent was pretty much the show that made me so interested in the arts, and molded me into the person I am today.  It's such an honor to actually be a part of this amazing show.

I will be in the ensemble, but unlike other musicals, the ensemble parts are CRAZY busy!  Many different characters, songs, dances and fun stuff!  I know right now that I will be a part of Santa Fe, Christmas Bells, various homeless people scenes, and of course, my personal fav, LA VIE BOHEME!

That's pretty much the big news as of right now.  I'm also involved in a scene from The Good Doctor for Masquers' 80th Season Show for the season ticket holders.  It's a fun piece, but I'm glad I got it all learned before the Rent craziness started!

School shall be starting in about a week and a half...And I couldn't be more excited!  Bring on the Arts Management and Dance!

Well, until the next time...peace, love, and Glee! (Which will be starting next month, I may add..JOY!)

Hey all--here we are with my first blog post!!  I won't be updating too much until school starts, as this is going to be used mainly for my recap of what I have learned in my Arts Management classes, my luck with my internship that I need in the following summer, and the theatrical experiences I partake in through out the year.  More to follow in the next month!!
